COVID-19 Announcement

Ralls Jackrabbit Family: With the rapidly changing landscape caused by the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we are continuing to monitor and make adjustments as necessary in order to make educated decision for the students and staff at RISD. The nationwide COVID-19 pandemic has had tremendous effect on our normal lives. The health and safety of our students, staff, and community are our top priority as we navigate this difficult time. Information from federal, state, and local authorities has been coming to us at a rapid pace. On March 18th, Crosby County declared a state of disaster through April 6th and today Governor Abbott issued an executive order that closed schools through April 3rd. District leadership has been closely monitoring the situation and have made these important decisions. Ralls ISD will extend Spring Break for all students through March 27th and will begin Distance Learning Instruction for all student’s March 30th with the hope that we can resume normal instruction on April 6th. The District will utilize the week of March 23rd for the staff to plan for at-home instruction to begin the week of March 30th. Arrangements are being made to continue to provide breakfast and lunch to our students. Meal service times and directions for food pickup will be available soon. Additionally, UIL is extending its suspension of all UIL sanctioned activities until Monday, May 4th. With that being said, all extracurricular activities, practices, rehearsals, athletic events, banquets, and prom are suspended/postponed while we are closed. We did not make this decision lightly. We fully realize it presents significant difficulties to all involved. However, we are hopeful that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community. We are currently making decisions week by week, but if confirmed cases of the virus continue to rise, it will be in the best interest of our students, staff, and community to limit contact with large groups of people and our school closure could be extended. Thank you for your patience and understanding. This is an unprecedented situation and we will remain fluid in our decisions. As always, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain the top priority. Sincerely, Chris Wade Ralls ISD Superintendent
